WHY COMMUNITY ART

I believe that developing creativity can have positive effects on people's lives, as adults and children. This inter-generational art experience gives people a voice, and taps into the depths of growth, beyond language, with inspiration, beauty and healing potential.

WHY I DO IT

It is my intention to dispel the myth that creativity lies only in the exceptional and the genius. It is my belief that creativity is a birthright for all humans.

When people become conscious of how making art can foster a deeper understanding of themselves, they gain a more compassionate acceptance of their intuitive self, thus taking bigger leaps in their personal lives. I feel that this understanding can be brought to the surface through non-judgemental art making, and supports people in being completely at ease with the art making process.

Creating art in a group inspires a common ground between opposites, bringing people together to build community skills such as: communication, listening, honoring different perspectives, seeing new possibilities and becoming aware of what people are passionate about and how they express themselves. This work opens the opportunities to support collective decision-making and enlivens creative problem solving in people.

WHAT I GET FROM IT

The joy and inspiration I get from doing this work makes me feel like I am part of a solution, bringing people closer to themselves. Not only does this reconnection to self offer healing through art, but that healing can harmonize the world. We are creators through our thoughts and emotions, and art facilitates growth in us all.

HOW I LIKE TO DO IT

In any size group, I enjoy facilitating art making, rather than “teaching” how to do it. My belief is that we all teach and inspire together as we create. Once everyone is comfortable with the techniques we are using, I join the group and make art alongside them. This offers a workshop atmosphere, with a lot of encouragement and peer learning.

My preference is to have a walk in policy so that you can invite art into your day without a time commitment. Simply show up and check it out, stay 20 minutes of 4 hours!

WHAT THE WORLD GETS WHEN I DO IT

Working in and through the arts becomes another way to help people meet the economic, ecological and social challenges of the future. Amplify that by working in community and you not only connect them to their creativity, but to each other.

This group atmosphere provides a fun and effective way for all walks of people to express their ideas about issues they are passionate about. The arts give people a creative voice, a way to express shared values and inspire a collective experience by working together to create.

      Art    Grows   Community

Many people I meet with during my art quests have amazing talents they don't yet recognize within themselves. They find themselves attracted to art, yet lack the confidence in their abilities. The community art format engages them in the exploration for imagery, color and line, giving them a chance to simply be with the fine art
